Filthy, eh? Don't let your gear
wind up like this. Simple routine maintenance can prevent it. Once
a year, twice if you have your gear out a lot, take it in
to your tech and have them give it a complete, thorough
cleaning. |
Even your equipment that never leaves
the house. It draws dust and needs cleaned periodically too.
NEVER attempt to open and clean your gear yourself. And DO
NOT allow your buddy, "the genius" to do it either. |
 |
 |
Besides shortening the life of the
components inside, there are other things that can go wrong
outside.
Like a performance having to be cancelled
because of breakdowns,
for instance. |
Okay, it will cost you some money.
And you'll have to do without it for a day or two .....
BUT ..... would you rather have to: Go buy a new
amp?
Or a new speaker? A cleaning is much less expensive
than a component replacement!
|
 |
 |
Now this is not very smart.
NEVER, EVER remove the
ground pin from any power cable. DO NOT USE any of those
"adapters" that change a three wire plug to a two wire type.
Buy an outlet analyzer at a local electrical supply house. They are
inexpensive and easy to use. Just plug it in and read the results.
NEVER USE any outlet that fails to 'measure up'!
|
And please, please,
pleeeeease,
get ANY power cord that shows signs of wear replaced
as soon as possible!
Not only is this a danger to
your gear, it's a danger to YOU! And to those around you.
You could get electrocuted with power cables like this. Or you
could cause someone else to. Or worse .... you and/or they could
very easily wind up ..... severely injured or D E A
D! |
 |
 |
Watch your power levels.
Feel the amps and cables every so often when the system is working.
If a cable is warm to the touch, get a heavier cable!
If an amp is hot, get a fan on it or back the system
down.
Don't destroy your gear.
It costs money to replace it. |
Check all of the connectors every few weeks in on-the-road
rigs. Speaker jacks, amp jacks,
speaker cable plugs,
power plugs, ALL OF THEM!
Loose connections cause heat.
Put a lot of power through one, or should I say not through
one, and this is the result. |
 |
 |
And for those of you who
weren't exactly paying attention ... |
A final reminder ....... X |
One last thing ... don't just check your own gear,
check everyone else's, too!
Your gear may be cool, but ... is your buddy's?
Did the sound company hook everything up right?
Is the building itself wired correctly?
NEVER EVER go up and just "grab a mic" ... death may be
waiting!
ALWAYS just - TAP - that's TAP
- the mic
while touching your instrument's metal parts.
If you feel the slightest tingle or jolt .....
get the techs on the problem IMMEDIATELY!
AND DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE UNTIL THEY FIX IT!
Working together, you will minimize the chance of
accidents. |
Enough things break down
under normal use.
Why take a chance with your gear or your life?
